Debolina Majumdar: The Soulful Watercolorist Representing India on Global Stages

Debolina Majumdar is a Bangalore-based artist who seamlessly blends her life as a software engineer with her profound passion for art. Born in Kolkata, a city known for its rich cultural heritage, Debolina discovered her love for art at the tender age of four. What began as a childhood curiosity soon blossomed into a lifelong devotion.

A Life Enriched by Travel and Artistic Diversity

Growing up in a family where her father’s job required frequent relocation, Debolina had the opportunity to explore different cities, cultures, and artistic traditions across India. This unique upbringing gave her a broad artistic perspective, influencing her style, choice of subjects, and techniques.

Each city left its mark, helping her pick up various art forms, and shaping the vibrant and diverse portfolio she is known for today.

Awards, Recognition & a Comeback to Art

Though Debolina pursued a professional career in engineering, her love for art never faded. Over the years, she received several national and international awards, reinforcing her natural talent and artistic voice.

However, it wasn’t until five years ago that she made a powerful return to the world of fine arts, choosing to reconnect with her creative self. Since then, her journey has been nothing short of inspiring.

Mastery in Watercolors – A Signature Medium

Among the various art forms she practices, watercolor painting holds a special place in Debolina’s heart. She loves the spontaneity and challenge it presents, and has gained widespread recognition for her work in this medium.

Her watercolor pieces were selected for:

  • IWS India Biennale 2022
  • Fabriano In Acquarello 2022 in Bologna, Italy
  • Fabriano In Acquarello 2023, also in Italy – a testament to her growing global reputation

Exhibitions Across India’s Top Art Galleries

Debolina has exhibited her work in several prestigious Indian art galleries, including:

  • Chitra Kala Parishath, Bangalore
  • ICCR, Kolkata
  • Nehru Centre Art Gallery, Mumbai

One of her most memorable experiences was participating in Chitra Santhe 2023, one of India’s largest open-air art markets, where she was selected from thousands of applicants.

Art Inspired by Everyday Life

What makes Debolina’s work deeply relatable is her ability to find inspiration in everyday moments. Her subjects often reflect scenes from daily life, reimagined through her brush in a way that evokes nostalgia, joy, and personal connection.

She believes that art is a journey, one of continuous learning and self-improvement. But her greatest reward? Seeing others resonate with her work and experience a spark of happiness or a memory they had forgotten.
